nce the capital of the Medes in 708 B.C. Hamadan is today the burial place of Abu Ali Sina known to the world as Avicenna, the famous philosopher, mathematician and physician of the eleventh century Iran.
Tourists from all over the world travel to Hamadan to visit Ali Sadr water cave which is one of the most astonishing natural beauties of the world. The famous shrine of Esther, the Jewish wife of the Achaemenian king Xerxes (486 – 465 B.C.), is visited by the Jewish pilgrims from all over the country.
