Iran Visa General Information
The Department now has a new convenient form of service
delivery available to clients who are seeking new or
replacement Iran visas or seeking to sponsor or nominate skilled
employees from overseas. Applications can be made in the
conventional way, at an Iranian office of this Department
or by mail, or they can now also be made via the Internet.
The ability to submit applications on the Internet is
currently limited to a small number of temporary entry and
permanent entry Iran visas and
Business Sponsorships and
Nominations. Over time, additional
Iran visa types and other
services will be added to provide a comprehensive online
Iran visa delivery service.
What do I need to make an Iran visa application online?
Iran Visa Applicants:
You should have the following items with you if you wish to
proceed beyond this point, and submit an Iran visa application:
* Your current passport (valid for at least six months);
* Your previous passport (if applicable);
* If you are applying for a Long-Stay Temporary Business
Iran Visa, details of your sponsor and associated nomination
approval number or transaction reference number
Please note that most Iran visa applicants must hold a valid
passport before they can be granted a visa. It is strongly
recommended that the passport be valid for at least six
months.
Business Sponsors will need details about:
* Your business
* The position/s to be nominated
* The person/s you wish to nominate and their family unit
members

What is the process for Iran visa application form?
The number of steps to an Internet application depends on
the type of Iran visa application you are making. All steps are listed below.
1 - Check that the Iran visa application you have selected is
appropriate to your circumstances
You will be asked a small number of questions that will help
you to check that the Internet Iran visa application you have selected
will suit your needs.
You should be aware that it is not possible to apply for the
full range of Iran visas and other Business Services on the
Internet at this time. It is possible you will need to
attend an Iranian Office of this Department or an
Iranian Government office overseas to have your visa
requirements seen to.
2 - Read the specific visa application information
If you choose to access the application, the first Internet
page that will be displayed provides information about the
application. This information outlines who is eligible and
how to apply.
You are required to read this information before you
continue. Once you have read this information you can select
"APPLY ONLINE HERE" at the bottom of the web page.
3 - Read the Terms and Conditions
The next Internet page that is displayed outlines the Terms
and Conditions of using the Internet site.
You are required to read this information and agree to the
Terms and Conditions before you continue.
If you agree you can select "I agree to the terms and
conditions" at the bottom of the page.
If you do not wish to agree to the Terms and Conditions,
your Iran visa application will be terminated.
4 - Complete the application form
Once you have agreed to the Terms and Conditions applying to
Internet applications, the Internet application form for the
Iran visa or Business service you have selected will be
displayed.
Most applications contain between 5 and 9 short screens to
complete, however some student and tourist Iran visa applications
contain more screens. The number of screens to complete is
displayed on the top of each screen.
As a rough estimate, allow between 2 and 4 minutes to
complete each screen.
Although each application is different, most applications
will request the following information:
Iran visa Applicants:
* Your current passport (valid for at least six months);
* travel document details;
* current or previous Iranian visa details;
* name and residential address details;
* postal and / or email address details; and
* declarations by you as to your
* an understanding and acceptance of the conditions of the
Iran visa being applied for.
Please note that most visa applicants must hold a valid
passport before they can be granted a Iran visa. It is strongly
recommended that the passport be valid for at least six
months.
Applicants Long-Stay Business visa applicants: you will also
be asked for details of your Business sponsor and your
nomination approval number/or nomination application
Transaction Reference Number.
Applicants for student visas: you may also be requested to
provide details of your:
* previous education; and
* intended courses of study.
Business Sponsors: you will need to provide details about:
* your business
* the positions you wish to nominate; and
* the person/s you wish to employ and their family unit
members.
Applicants for tourist visas: you may be asked for details
of your:
* Reason for visiting Iran and travel plans; and
* Your current employment status.
Once you have completed the application form you will have
the opportunity to review the information that you have
supplied, and print a copy if you wish. While the printed
copy will not look exactly like the online version, it will
contain all the details that you supplied when you completed
the application. As a final step you will be asked to pay
the application charge by credit card.
5 - Submit the Iran visa application
Once you have entered the payment details you will be able
to submit the application.
When the bank accepts payment, and after the Department has
accepted your application, a 'Transaction Reference Number'
(TRN) will be generated for your application.
You can use the TRN to inquire on the status of your
application at any time by selecting the Online Enquiry
Facility on the previous page.
6 - Complete the steps outlined after submitting the
application
When your application has been successfully submitted you
will be asked to complete a number of steps to finalise the
application.
These steps are:
* For students applying within Iran, print the provided
checklist of requirements for interview (you must provide
the information requested in the checklist at the
interview);
* For applicants applying for a visa from outside Iran,
download and print the provided Health forms (these will
only be provided if you are required to undergo a health
check);
* For Business Sponsors, attach any supporting
documentation.

visa application;
* optionally view and print a copy of your visa application.
How long will it take for my application to be processed
online?
Resident Return visa applications
Applications for Resident Return visas submitted
electronically are normally finalised within 2 working days.
Some applicants will be required to attend an interview and
will be expected to bring supporting documentation to their
interview. If you are required to be interviewed, this
Department will contact you by e-mail to advise you of your
next step.
Student Internet visa applications submitted from OUTSIDE
Iran
Student visa applications submitted electronically are
normally finalised within 5-10 working days. In some
instances, applications may need to be referred to an
iranian Immigration Office in iranian for further
processing. Referred applications may take up to 4 weeks to finalise.
Student Internet visa applications submitted from in Iran
Student visa applicants who submit visa applications
electronically will be contacted by this Department within 3
working days and advised of their next step. Should an
interview be required you will be expected to bring all
outstanding documentation to your interview. You will be
assessed at interview, and where possible, a decision will
be made.
Extension to a Tourist visa (subclass 676) or extension to
an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) submitted in Iran
Applications for extensions of a Tourist visa or extensions
of an ETA (Visitor) submitted electronically are normally
finalised within 2 working days. Some applicants will be
required to attend an interview and will be expected to
bring supporting documentation to their interview. If you
are required to be interviewed, this Department will contact
you by e-mail to advise you of your next step.
Working Holiday visa applications
Working Holiday visa applications submitted electronically
are normally finalized within 2 working days. In some
instances, applications may need to be referred to an
iranian Immigration Office in Iran for further
processing. Referred applications may take up to 4 weeks to
finalize.
Applicants should not make any irreversible travel
arrangements until they receive written advice from our
office that their visa has been granted.
Tourist visa applications (submitted outside Iran)
Tourist visa applications submitted electronically are
normally finalized in less than 2 weeks. In some instances,
applications may need to be referred to an Iranian
Immigration Office for further processing. Referred
applications may therefore take longer to process.
While we Endeavour to process all applications as
efficiently as possible, processing times for Tourist visa
applications can vary and are attributable to a number of
different factors including general processing procedures,
or case specific issues that arise during processing.
Applicants should not make any irreversible travel
arrangements until they receive written advice from our
office that their visa has been granted.
Temporary Business Long Stay sponsorship, nomination and
visa applications
Temporary Business (long stay) visa processing times are
currently:
* 1 month for ETA nationals and
* 2 months for non-ETA nationals onshore and offshore.
These times are applicable to complete applications and
where the sponsorship, nomination and visa applications are
lodged together at the same time.
What happens after I have made an Iran visa application?
Most applications will be processed electronically, with
notification being sent to you of the outcome of your
application. The notification will be either by post or
email, depending on which you nominate in your application.
In certain circumstances this Department may contact you to:
* request more information;
* undergo a health check that was not identified during the
submitting of this Iran visa application;
* arrange an interview.
What happens if my current visa expires while my Iran visa application
is being decided?
If you are making this application from within Iran and
your current visa expires in the period between you lodging
this application and the Department deciding your
application, you will be granted a Bridging A visa to cover
this period.
Will I need a medical examination?
A chest x-ray and / or medical examination is required in
certain circumstances.
Usually these circumstances will be identified at the time
you are making the application and, if this is the case, you
will be informed of these medical requirements at that time.
Occasionally circumstances will exist that require you to
undertake a chest x-ray and / or medical examination that
were not identified at the time of making the visa
application. If this occurs you will be contacted by this
Department.
Can I save an Iran visa application and continue it later?
Yes, the ability to save a visa application on this
Department's secure site is provided.
If you choose to save your application for completion at a
later time, then:
* you will be issued with a "Stored visa application
identifier" which you must provide when continuing your visa
application; and
* you will be requested to provide a password which you must
provide when continuing your iran visa application.
You can continue your saved Iran visa application at any time by
selecting the Continue Iran visa application facility on the previous
page.
Important Information about saved Iran visa applications:
* The loss of either the "Stored visa application
identifier" or the password you provided will cause you to
begin your Iran visa application again.
* This Department reserves the right to remove partially
completed Iran visa applications at its discretion. Applications that
have not been completed within 28 days from the date first
saved will be deleted, and you will need to recommence the
Iran visa application.
